Teeth Bleaching vs. Teeth Whitening
When I first attempted to seek for help with my stainful teeth, I was confused about the terms: teeth bleaching and teeth whitening, thinking that they were the same thing. They are bother intended to make my teeth whiter, aren’t they?
However, as I becoming more and more knowledgeable about this topic, the differences between them have become clearer and clearer. So I have learned a lesson that everything exists for a reason. Why aren’t they called by the same name if they are the same thing?
Teeth Bleaching
As defined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), “bleaching” is a term which strictly applies to products containing bleach (hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide typically) which can make the teeth even whiter than their natural color.
Teeth Whitening
On the other hand, “whitening” is a term which refers to restoring the surface color of a tooth by removing the dirt and debris gathered on it. It’s a process of cleaning the teeth. Any product which has a function of cleaning (e.g. toothpaste) is considered as a whitener.
